" A handful of lucky whole foods have recently gotten the 'Good nutrient' marketing treatment"
Are they correctly analyzing the structure of the nutrients?
The protein from plants and the protein from animals are completely different on a cellular level. And the protein from chicken and beef differ and have different attributes when used in the body.

"I have dwelled on this paper because it fairly reflects the current thinking on the increasingly tenuous links between dietary fat and health."
Does he mention genetics later in the book?
It's fine and dandy he looks to studies, but one thing that older studies overlook are genetics. One person may be able to utilize a certain kind of fat than others in the same way people might be predisposed to heart disease.

"Play your cards right and you can even get the American Heart Association to endorse your new breakfast cereal as 'heart healthy'"
"I wonder if he talks more about political and corporate corruption in he book"
I remember he states the problem as "Why not change our diet" and this goes back to culture and media marketing. So the root would be exactly the corruption in the government and companies.

Endersession Blog Post 6
My first option would be to apply as an assistant to a researcher because I already have a heavy background with dry labs and wet labs I would have the background knowledge to be of use.
My second would be to intern at a company like Pfizer for the same reasons as above.
My third option would be applying to a translational science facility (I already worked at Scripps TSRI) and I would have the edge on other people.
My endersession is already decided and I will be taking classes to be certified in animal surgery, lab protocol, and safety.

Endersession Homework #5
What skills or knowledge would you like to acquire before leaving high school (either in preparation for college or life in general)? Match your ideas on this question with ideas for Endersession. In a brief essay explain both of these. At the end of you essay, research and include 3 contacts for Endersession opportunities that would help you acquire the above stated skills.
I need to get the paperwork to my mentor but I will be working at one of Dr.James Lyndsey's labs at UCSD. And from that I will be getting more experience in a wetlab going through assays and learning about proper lab technique while handling animals and animal parts and also develop connections in the research world.

Endersession Service/Volunteer
Building Houses and other outreach opportunities. I know the contact and he's a cool guy, has a lot going on as far as service goes.
DJ Marx, 619-417-6231, Dmarx@newbreak.org
No specific contact info but the volunteer application is here, I've volunteered with them before and had a nice experience http://www.surfrider.org/take-action/volunteer
The third one isn't a service or volunteer one but it is the endersession I already have the green light for.
Dr.James Lindsey http://eyesite.ucsd.edu/faculty/lindsey.htm
I have contact with him via e-mail and through my mom who works at UCSD. I'm going to be interning with Karen from my last internship in the Dr.'s labs.

Myer Briggs Test Results
Field Marshal (ENTJ)
I feel like I developed some of the traits that are associated with the field marshal from this mindset:
I've committed myself to helping anybody I can that is in need and I have gone through the mental, physical, and material preparation to do so. I carry a first aid and disaster kit wherever I go in order to be prepared to help however I can. The video talks about a very unpleasant subject that most of us do not ever want to deal with or think about. But I know I have to take responsibility for myself and those around me because others will not.
But of course, that's a switch flipped on when the situation calls for it. I like how the evaluation mentions "I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?" I feel that is accurate because I won't give my best if the situation requires or does not grant me the opportunity to do so.
And overall, I adapt to the situation but I am ready to lead if the need arises. And I will chase after what I want if it is viable and open for me to do so.

Three Plants I want to grow
1. Aloe Vera
a.It is a succulent
b.It grows well in nutrient deprived soil (granite soil) around February. From the mother plant the pups growing from the side can be divided to grow more. Seeds take longer and there’s more success with pups. To keep bacteria from harming the pup you wait for the base to scab over for 1-2 days before replanting. In the summer you keep the soil moist but allow time to dry in between waterings. From watching my grandma’s garden depending on the conditions it takes 1-2 weeks for the seedling to germinate, and if it’s a pup we have a small plant in the same amount of time.
c. It’s ready to harvest as soon as it starts growing, although you want to cut off leaves and pups when it’s bigger. It’s easy to get a crop of aloe vera using pups, and the product is almost instantly ready to use.
d. They can be grown 6-8 inches apart from each other. They grow at an angle upwards which leaves a lot of room for big groups of them.
e. Aloe vera can be put into nutrient deprived granite soil and still be fine, but for best results cacti succulent mixes should be used for nutrient fertilizer.
f.It requires a minimal amount of water, keeping the dirt dry in between watering, and you water at the base.
g.Lithops species and Snake plants.
3. It makes a delicious drink, and a leaf cut off can be used to help heal burns and cuts.
